Be Healthy And Keep Breast Cancer Away

I started working for a non-profit breast center right out of college… as a medical assistant. I was there for years, learned a ton and welcomed the fact that Breast Cancer would be a cause that I would always support.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month which means everything from Campbell’s soups to underwear will be pink and decorated with ribbons to support the cause. I am proud to be doing my part as well in a number of ways…

  • The Art Of Weight Lifting (my all women’s training site) is donating all sign-up fees to Susan G Komen Foundation
  • Raise For The Cure 5K… go to www.raceforthecure.com to sign up!
  • And keeping my friends motivated at the breast center with this sweet treat… people forget how busy the mammo techs and doctors get this month as women remember to get their mammograms!

I am not telling you this to toot my horn but to motivate you and your friends to also take a stand and help women going through this or the women that may one day have to fight the battle against Breast Cancer!

And just to show the importance of keeping in shape…

Exercise Helps To Reduce Risk Of Breast Cancer

  • Researchers found that older women who worked out for an hour a day, or just seven hours a week, could cut their chance of developing the disease by 16 per cent… exercise has to be moderate to vigorous.

Findings in medical journal BMC Cancer

  • And if you have already been diagnosed with breast cancer… women that exercise regularly each week have a significantly higher survivor rate than breast cancer patients who did not exercise. In fact, 92% of the women who exercised 3-5 hours per week (or about half an hour per day) were still alive, compared to 86% of those who got less than an hour a week of physical activity. Findings from: ACS News Center
