So for some reason I have been putting off buying local produce. I occasionally buy local shrimp but only if it is offered at whichever grocery store I am shopping at.
I guess, I was thinking what’s the difference between getting my fruit and vegetables off the grocery shelves, it always looks fresh right?
I also thought it was more expensive and inconvenient two shop at two places instead of just one. For some reason I also had a stigma that fresher would be more expensive.
Well after some very untasty bananas and tomatoes, I decided to stop by a local produce mart that also boasts only local seafoods, meat, dairy, and snacks. If you happen to ever visit Charleston, South Carolina or are lucky enough to live here you MUST! check out Boone Hall Farms.
Not only is it an all local store, the quality and prices cannot be beat. I can’t believe how much longer my fruits and veggies last and how much tastier meat and seafood is that is actually fresh. I did not tell my boyfriend about the switch I had made to see if he could taste the difference….and he did! I don’t know if I will ever visit a grocery store again.
Buying Local is a great way to practice Clean Eating. I know the food I bought there came straight from the ground without any perservatives or packaging. Because they carry very few packaged foods I was not tempted to pick up any junk while I shopped.
