Dear Body, This Is Why I Love You {April Challenge}

This past weekend I accomplished something that I wasn’t sure about. I didn’t know if my body was going to be able to carry me for 24.14 miles. There were several times when I thought for sure I was done, my body was spent, and I had pushed it far too hard.

But in the end, it persevered and showed me just what it was able to do. My body believed in me even when I didn’t believe in it. Through the pain, it kept going and showed me just how much it loved me.

For that it deserves this. And I am going to say that yours does as well. Our bodies all deserve to be respected and reminded of how much they mean to us. Because let’s face, we’re not always kind. We don’t always say the right things, we don’t always listen to our bodies when it asks for rest, we tell it that it’s fat, bumpy, etc, and we often even avoid looking at it. Let’s not give our bodies the cold shoulder today, let’s dedicate the day to showing love and respect.

Let’s be a bit corny, because sometimes corny is exactly what the doctor personal trainer ordered.

self love

Dear Body,

I’m not always good with words. Sure, I could tell you what I am about to write but I am better at sharing my emotions and thoughts here. The words flow easily and I want to make sure that I tell you exactly what’s on my mind. That’s what you deserve.

For years, I have pushed you. I have starved you. I have called you names.  I have bullied you and questioned your abilities on several occasions. I have even gone so far as to talk to doctors about changing you.

But you know what?

You’ve continued to remain on my team. You have worked hard to prove me wrong and to prove to me that you are worthy of my love.

You are worthy of my love.

I am proud of you and your strength.

You have an amazing ability to break through walls and accomplish so much more than I ever dreamt possible. You are the vehicle that makes me who I am. So many people are unable to do what it is that you can do, and for that I am grateful.

Looking back at all the adventures that we’ve been through and all the times we have wanted to stop and throw in the towel but didn’t, brings tears to my eyes. Together with my will and your strength we have found the ability to finish what we started.

You might not be perfect… you might not have 6-pack abs, you may have a broken nose, a small chest and some spots of cellulite, but you know what?

You’re perfect for me.

I can’t promise that I’ll never be hard on you again, but I can promise that I love you. Sometimes we take those we love for granted and that’s what happens. Far too often. I am sorry about that, and yes I can guarantee there will be more times where I take you for granted. But know I love you.

I love…

  • Your endurance
  • Your strength
  • Your athleticism (I never thought I would be an athletic almost 30 year old)
  • Your blue eyes (my eyes tell every emotion)
  • Your curves
  • Your health – so many wish to just be able to get up each day and look at what we’re able to do? Blessed? Most definitely!

So body, I leave you with this:

Anytime you begin to feel mistreated or unloved come back to this letter. Read it and know that I do respect you and feel blessed that you’re my body. We are one. And I’ll do the same.

The April Challenge:

Are you ready for your April Challenge? First off who completed the March Challenge?? Let me know down below in the comments! I am going to make a special shout out post to all those that rock the challenges each month, sort of like an “Honor Roll” post.

The Corny Challenge

For this month, we’re going to continue to be a bit corny. Here’s what I want…

I want you to write yourself a letter like the one above. Then I want you to read it to yourself every day for the month of April.

I think it will be fun to see just how much of a confident booster and smile maker doing this challenge will be.

And for those of you who aren’t into the corny challenges and just love fitness ones…

Q: What’s one thing you love about your body?

  • ooh, love the dual challenge! I will try my best to do both but I’m pretty sure the letter thing will be the hardest. I’m a big believer in self-love though so I will do it! I also did the march miles goal, 13.1 of which were from my first half-marathon 🙂

    • You can do the letter. It is hard but it’s definitely worth it! Congrats on your half!! That’s great!

  • I love my endurance; it’s amazing that I can put my body through running 26.2 miles , or cycling 100 miles.

    • That is awesome! One day I hope I can say that!

  • Tracy

I wish I could find a great group of girls to do something like that!

March challenge completed with 57 miles, and I’m in for the April challenge

    • It was a blast! 57 miles, great work!!

  • dear body, i love you because you are carrying a healthy baby itz!

    • It’s amazing! I am in awe all the time at what the body can do! You look great btw!

  • love this message! right now, I’m loving that my body can grow another person – so thankful for that!

    • Thanks friend! It is an amazing thing!

  • Eveliz

I completed the March challenge! I ran 51.85 miles 🙂

I will do my best to do both April challenges.

    • Wow, great job on the miles! You can do April… both!

  • Sharon

Completed March challenge…ran/walked 35 miles. Count me in for the April Abs.

    • Great job on the miles! Let’s do April!

  • Sheena

I dunno how many miles I did but I increased from one spin class every two or three weeks to two per week before work on Mondays and Fridays 😀

I’m so down for the ab challenge!

  • I’m all on board the abs challenge! I’ve been looking to mix up my typical core routine, so this will be a great opportunity to do that.

One thing I love about my body is that I’ve always had a really strong frame. I’ve often complained about not having thin, dainty shoulders or a naturally small waist, but now I think having a more boyish, V-shape to my body makes me look strong instead of unfeminine. I’ve learned to really love it!

    • Yes it is! Your abs will love you! Love the strength!

  • I’m in!!

  • we should all think of reasons why we love our bodies! Love both challenges!

  • Kim

I completed the March challenge – my goal was 150 miles. I ran 144 had miles and did almost 25 much easier miles so I’m counting it!!!
Love the April challenge (both of them) – planning to try and participate!!!

    • 144!? Wow, you’re a rock star!

  • Sherri

I love these challenges! I am in for the April Abs! 🙂

  • OOH I think I might have to be in for both April Challenges!

    • Awesome! Let’s do this!

  • I completed the March challenge (in tandem with the FitFluential challenge) and ended up with 140 miles! I also intend on doing both challenges for April.

Self love is so often overlooked and untouched. I definitely have an issue with it and to be completely honest, your question about something I love about myself makes me hesitate. Sometimes I love my arms and shoulders. They’re probably the one part of my body I’ve really noticed the biggest difference in from working out. I’ve also noticed a loss of definition since gaining some weight over the past year and I know I need to work on loving myself more.

    • 140! Wow. You are too wonderful of a person to not see the awesome traits you possess! Your body did 140 miles! That’s worth bragging about!

  • the bodies are amazing pieces of equipment aren’t they?

  • Sally

I’m in for the April challenge. My goal this month is to do something daily.

  • valerie

Completed the March challenge barley but had a set back with my ankle so broke it up between running and biking. In for this month challenge cant wait! When you say bicycle crunches is it 90 all together or is it right left 1 right left 2? Either way looking forward to trying it.

    • I am sorry to hear about your ankle! That stinks! Is it feeling better? For bicycles it’s 1-1 (left 1, right 1 = 1). Let’s do this!

      • valerie

It has its days, Dr is saying surgery, but i dont wanna! Getting married next year and trying to loose some weight and surgery will be a set back. Going to try some inserts made just for me in hopes that it helps!
