I wish I could say that I have watched the Vancouver Olympics but to tell you the truth, they come on way too late and I am way too tired… Dan keeps me posted though on what I miss out on. But here’s one thing I haven’t missed… McDonalds as a sponsor of the 2010 Games.
Ok, so that’s bad enough, but then again they have been Olympic sponsors for years. This the part that really gets me: The tagline they are using in their commercials… “Eat Like An Olympian” and then the scene of eating processed, fatty, cholesterol loaded crap.
What message is this sending to people… especially kids. They see this fit medalist pigging out on Big Macs and fries and they think that is ok. Not just ok, it’s healthy! I mean, if the Olympians eat it then it must be healthy and will make them be a top notch athlete too?
It really does infuriate me that they would go this way with their ad campaign. What are they going to tell us next.. that to lose weight you should eat an apple turnover or a McFlurry each day after lunch?
Here’s the truth about most athletes’ diets:
Clean eaters. Most are extremely conscious about their food choices, reaching only for the best and freshiest; least processed and most nutritious foods possible. I am pretty sure that Micheal Phelps is the only athlete that brags about eating whatever he wants… and that will one day catch up with him.
Look at Apolo Anton Ohno, he will admit that his diet is a big part of his success. He leaned out 20+ pounds for these games… and do you think a Big Mac was ever on his daily diet? Nope.
Packed with protein. Protein is so important for building muscle, after all what is muscle? Protein! To build it on your body you gotta get it from somewhere. Athletes weight train to stay in top shape and be able to preform at their best, they get a balanced diet of healthy carbs and proteins… and by protein I don’t mean McNuggets or a quarter pounder.
