Freeze… Literally Freeze And Hold Your Exercises!

I started training today for my next fitness competition, it won’t be until next year but I figured what the heck there is no better time than now.  I am also trying out a new form of exercises on my off weight training days and let me tell you, they kicked my strength training ass… I use knew just because it’s not the normal workout I am used to.

I’m talking about isometric exercises

I started doing body weight exercises that can be held in mid movement. That’s right freezing the exercise, the idea between isometric exercises! Not only where my muscles shaking during the workout but after I was exhausted in a “I kicked butt” kind of way.

Holding your move pushes your muscles to work until close to complete failure. And works to tone you up great! Even better… these moves make for a great at home workout. All the exercises can be done in the privacy at your own home and you’re assured to get a killer calorie burning, muscle toning workout!

Isometrics are proven to help with muscle hypertrophy (muscle building) and put great stress on your muscles which is exactly what we’re going for when trying to tone up.

Here are the exercises I did:

Push-up hold: hold the push up at the lowered position… for as long as possible when you feel you can’t go on try and complete as many full push-ups as possible.

Squat hold: lower down into a squat and hold as long as possible; rest for 30 seconds and repeat!

Hanging Pike: Hang from pull-up bars and hold legs at 90 degrees (parallel to the ground) for a long as possible.

Chin-up hold: hold your head above the bar.

V-sit hold: self explanatory.

Handstand hold: Try it without a wall but if you can’t hold a handstand of course you can do it on a wall too.

For all of the moves, rest for a short period (30-60 seconds) and repeat for a total of 2-3 sets per move. You’ll definitely find doing isometrics a great change from the normal 3 sets of 10 rep exercises.
