How To Make Your Meals More Exciting

by TaylorR on June 7, 2010

Tired of your healthy meals feeling like the same 7 meals each week. Here are some ways to switch it up so your dinners are a bit more exciting but still staying in the realm of eating clean.

Here’s one trick I recently learned… if you’ve been avoiding cream based soup or can’t figure out out to thicken soups and sauces out, just use white beans. In a food processor, process some cooked beans and throw them into your meal. It will give it the creamy feel you’ve been avoiding.

Here are some more ideas to help spruce up your diet. No one looks forward to meals when you’ve been having the same thing for the past three weeks!

A new way to get your Beans:

Instead of black beans or any bean for that matter, try out edamame beans. They are delish and taste like a mix between peanuts and normal beans. Plus they are loaded with protein, help battle belly fat, and decrease risk of breast cancer. In fact research shows that people that eat a heavy dose of soy (edamame) have a decreased amount of belly fat than those that don’t. My favorite way to prepare them is to toss them with a little olive oil, sea salt and garlic seasoning and roast them in the oven at 400 degrees for around ten minutes. DELISH!

Quinoa salad... my favorite!

Rice is so boring.

Granted I do try to spice it up with herbs, onions, olives and more but it can still be boring… “oh, look.. rice again.” So forget the rice and try Quinoa instead. It’s an African grain that taste amazing… think rice meats pasta. And it’s the only grain that contains all the essential proteins (those that we have to get from food). It’s great served up like a pasta salad or warm like rice. Really it is so easy and you can’t go wrong.

Shrimp is good… but these are better.

Dan's favorite meal!

Shrimp is great for you, even though it is high in cholesterol. High protein, low carbs and great flavor, but mussels are even better. They contain more Iron, and more vitamin B-12 which allow you to stay active and energized. I have perfected my mussels by steaming them in a shallow bath of white wine, garlic, lemon juice, thyme basil, onion and tomatoes. Delish!!!

Yogurt… shomgurt.

Never had it, but it looks good!

I ate yogurt as a kid and I am sick of the stuff. But eaitng Kefir is a different alternative. It’s lower in calories, higher in protein! One serving has 14 grams of protein (yogurt normally has around 6-8 grams). It’s also great for supporting your stomach as it contains a great dose of healthy bacteria.
It’s nice every once in a while to try new foods and give up on old ones, Even if you know they are good for you, it can be extremely boring to buy the same foods week after week. Try out new veggies, new fruits and new meats regularly!

The next foods I want to give a try are: Ostrich, parsnips (I’m not sure if I’ve had them) and wild rice flour.
