I love sprouts on my sandwiches and salads but I haven’t thought it these little suckers much beyond that… until today!
Dan’s mom gave me a “How To Sprout Sprouts Jar” that came with the jar (duh) and seeds. To tell you the truth I don’t even know what kind of sprouts they are but I figured, what the heck the directions look simple enough. So
Way Too Many Sprouts!
when we got home on Sunday I started my sprout experiment…
I followed the directions for how many seeds to use and all that other jazz to get the things growing and I was shocked that after just 24 hrs I could see something happening.
But enough boring stuff, let’s jump to today (Wednesday)…
I think I learned how to sprout the seeds too well because now I have a jar crammed pact with the things. I think Dan and I have enough sprouts to put on sandwiches for a lifetime but since I obviously want them to stay sprouts instead of turning into unknown adult plants I am searching for meal ideas. So if you have any let me know…
For those ladies that might not know sprouts are freaking the power food! Because they are living when you eat them they are jammed with vitamins, minerals, carbs, and protein. They have the highest amount of vitamins, minderals, proteins and enzymes of any food per unit of calorie!
Some other little tip bits about sprouts and why you should learn how to sprout yourself
- Researchers have discovered that 3 day old brocolli sprouts contain 20-50 times more cancer fighting power then adult brocolli.
- They have greater concentration of vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes, phytochemicals, anti-oxidants, nitrosamines, bioflavinoids and chemo-protectants which work against against toxins, resist cell mutation and help the body’s immune system more than any other point in the plant’s life (even compared to mature veggies).
- Baby sprouts are very easy to digest and a great help to the digestive track
- Plant estrogens are also abundant in sprouts. They increase bone formation and density to prevent bone breakdown/weakening or osteoporosis.
- Sprouts help us ladies out too in controlling hot flashes, PMS, and menopause!
