Let The Juicefest Begin: The Juice Cleansing Experiment

by TaylorR

Yesterday I decided that I just haven’t challenged myself in the past months (1/2 marathons and PRs are just little accomplishments)… I needed something new.

So… I began a 3-day Juice Cleanse (Insert GASP here).

Okay, so the 1/2 and the PRs were big deals but this is something completely different.

Meet my meals for the next 3 days…

What in the world drove me to drinking my meals?

Right about a month ago Dan and I cozied up on the couch for a Saturday night movie. Because we are weird awesome, we watched the documentary Fat Sick And Nearly Dead, a weight loss documentary on the benefits of juicing.

Now, I am not against juicing but I am also not completely sold on the idea that it’s wonderful for you… after all, the fiber and roughage gets left behind in the machine to be tossed away. And we all know how important fiber is!

However, they made some really interesting points and the research that was used got me to thinking…. is there something in this whole juicing fad?

I don’t have a juicer (though I have been thinking about it) so when I was given the opportunity by Urban Remedy to partake in their 3-Day juice cleanse I decided to jump on board.

What’s 3 days going to hurt?

Plus, so many people have asked for my opinion on juicing and on cleanses. You know (if you’ve been a reader here for a while) that while I love reading research, I am a huge fan of testing things out on myself to be able to provide the best and honest opinion I can.

Urban Remedy’s Signature Cleanse

Urban Remedy offer’s five different cleanses!

However as a beginner, they recommend the Signature as the best place to get started. Considering that some of them last 5-7 days, I am much more comfortable getting my toes wet with the 3 day starter.

Check out the ingredients that are in my juices:

Why Juice Cleanse?

According to Urban Remedy, a few of the benefits of juicing include:

  • Reverse Aging
  • “Glow”
  • Detox
  • Boot Immunity
  • Reduce Internal Inflammation
  • Support Digestion
  • Improve Circulation
  • Increase Energy
  • Improve Memory
  • Increase Virility
  • Help weight loss

I mentioned the weight loss last because let me clarify… I am NOT trying to lose weight with this cleanse. If I do it’s not going to be from burning fat, it will most likely be from “cleansing”, if you know what I mean.

I will track my weight over the course of the 3 days to see what happens though.

And no, I am not going to go into details on Day 1… I will give a complete review of each day next week probably with some videos tossed in there too!

I am really excited about this “mini experiment”… it seems that people that juice are ALL ABOUT IT! So why not open my mind to see.

Wish me luck, check back for recaps of the days. I am nervous that my body will just ache to chew so fingers crossed!

Pre Juice Stats (taken Dec. 6 at 5:15am)

  • Weight: 111 lbs
  • Body Fat: 18%
  • Energy: Drained

Have you ever done a cleanse?
If not, would you ever consider one?

*I was not compensated by the Urban Remedy. I was provided the 3 day cleanse for free however the opinions here and in the future posts are my own.

My husband and I have been considering doing Dr. Oz’s weekend cleanse. Just 48 hours seems doable and his isn’t all liquid. I am figuring on January to get out of the holiday eating mode. It seems like a nice idea to “restart” if you fall into eating less healthy for a time.

Yes, I agree that just 2 days is more than reasonable! And I like the idea that his isn’t 100% all liquid. I won’t lie… it’s hard!

Taylor, I am thinking of trying this! I too haven’t been challenging myself and need to get more veggies in my diet. Can’t wait to read the recap!

GIve it a go, it’s definitely a veggie-fruit overload (in a good way). I am going to try to implement more juicing into my diet once it’s all done.

I just saw that documentary this past weekend. I think we are going to “reboot” our system after Xmas. We will do the smoothie thing for 3 days. I know myself and juicing is not for me. Plus, cleaning the juicer is a pain. I am looking forward to cooking with just my blender, lol! Thanks for blogging about it!
