Making Pizza Healthy

My favorite food is pizza. I really think I could eat pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of my life. People usually act surprised and say pizza? But that’s not healthy. Now if your talking about Domino’s meat lovers, or Pizza Hut’s cheesy crust then your probably right. There are so many healthy and tasty options out there for pizza that can cut fat and calories while satisfying your craving.

My favorite frozen pizza is the Kashi brand. They have 5 different flavored pizza’s and all only 9g of fat per serving and 270 calories. Their serving sizes are 1/3 of the pizza which really leaves you full! I love to cook homemade pizza as well and either use whole foods whole grain pizza dough or a Boboli pre-made whole grain pizza crust.

Toppings are where most pizza’s accumulate all of the calories. I like to use part-skim mozzarella with some goat cheese or feta. Look for a tomato sauce low in sugar. Keep your toppings to lean protein choices. Ground turkey, sliced chicken, cooked shrimp are all super tasty. I love to pile my pizza’s high with orange and yellow peppers, broccoli, zuchini, cherry tomatoes, the options and combinations are endless and you end up with a great nutrient rich, well balanced, delicious meal.

If you have any other meals that you would like to give a healthy make-over leave a comment and I would love to help you!
