Need A Better Protein Supplement?

insect protein

I am here to market the new protein supplement for post workout recovery drinks and snack… I have only one person to thank for coming up with the idea: Bear Grylls. The Man Vs Wild was on this morning and it hit me… if it works for him and his body in these high stress, dangerous situations it will work for women (and men) for getting their high dose of protein post workouts.

If you haven’t seen the show, Bear is a wild man who shows you how to survive crazy situations, you know just in case you happen to get lost in Costa Rica, the Florida Everglades, the Artic… you get the idea.  I watch for no other reason than the fact that he’s CRAZY.

So back to the best protein source ever… I am going to start manufacturing Insecto-Protein… protein derived from you guessed it, insects! Just hear me out:

Insects Have 4 Times The Amount Of Protein As Beef!

I mean, how bad can the little creepy crawlers be? My dog chases them around and tries to eat them, Bear has no qualms about it, some countries even call a bug or two a “delicacy”… so are you with me? Think about it… whey protein generally cost around $25 for a good brand, but if you just dry up a whole bunch of bugs, throw them in a food processor then you add a nuttiness to your shakes and food while adding TONS of protein for practically nothing. See, ants really do have their purpose here.

Ok maybe this isn’t the next big thing in nutrition, but it is pretty interesting. To think those little nasty, flying bugs have so much protein and are actually nutritiously sound… It doesn’t take away the fact though that I still cringe each time I see Bear toss back another spider, beetle, or grub though. For now I think I will stick to my whey protein, lean chicken breasts and of course my egg whites!

Here’s a video of Bear’s strong stomach in his need for protein, don’t watch this if bugs and goo makes you squeamish.

Fun Insect Nutritional Facts:

  • 100 g of dried bugs has around 53 g of protein.
  • The same amount has over 100% of the recommended amounts of: potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus and iron, as well as various vitamins!
  • 100 g of beef has on 32 g of protein!

That is why you must take protein supplements if you feel that you are not getting enough proteins from food.

Whey proein as compared to all other protein types (egg, standard milk, soy, etc) is the best across the board and should (and usually does) have a cost to match. It is the easiest on your stomach, fastest into your system, and best for muscle tissue gains/ weight maintenance (it’s what doctors have used to get HIV and wasted chemo/radiation patients to hold the line and even re-grow). It has immune system enhanceing properties that make it almost medicinal. It has anti cancer properties beyond its immune enchanceing ones, but especially for those who are about to undergo radiation/chemothereapy
