I’m toying around with the idea of giving up cheese for October to see if it makes me feel any better. But first I have to make sure there aren’t any essential fall foods that include cheese. :P

I am giving up LaraBars and it is tough. I have to plan so much more to have something light and nutrient dense to eat before I hit the gym. I don’t think Larabars are bad for me but all the wrappers adding up were weighing on me. Plus the parent company supports unlabeled GMOs so my money spent on them supported something against my values. I hope I can do it!

this is going to be a hard one, but i think i’m going to give up beer for the month of October. it’ll be hard mostly because i live in Wisconsin and beer is a bit of a staple here, but i think it makes me stuffy and bloaty and that i may have a minor gluten intolerance, so hopefully a month w/o it will uncover some things for me. awesome giveaway, by the way!

It’s a good idea – I do wish it was another month. The bf gets back from Afghanistan in the middle of October, so there won’t be a whole lot of denial going on. BUT I love the idea so much that I am giving up my dependence on sweetners. I have gotten into the habit of putting stevia in everything – green tea, on my cereal, in water with lime juice – when it all tastes fine on its own. We’ll see how this goes!

I tried to do this in September….epic fail. I love to eat raw oats. The only problem it makes me bloated, and cause weight creep as I eat waaay too much. It is my chocolate. I figure if I put out there then I am accountable. So for real…I am giving up my daily snack of cup of oats.

I need to give up chewing gum. It’s a bit ridiculous how much I chew. Hoping I can kick it for the month of September… so I can make try to take out those artificial sweeteners yet. Baby steps…

Reply

TaylorR September 25, 2012 at 8:33 pm

I am addicted to gum too, so much so that I am giving up the latte’s before it because I am just not ready to part with it. lol. Plus the gum is a bit more friendly on my wallet.

I was hoping to come up with something more original but I am also giving up lattes for the month and if it goes well I am going to do it throughout the holidays. I’m trying to cut back on caffeine and the extra calories and $ saved will be an added bonus. It’s hard this time of year because coffee/lattes usually sound the best to me during fall & winter but I think it may be what’s contributing to the migraines I’ve been having the last couple weeks.

First of all, I think this site is fantastic and have been reading it since Taylor did a guest blog on Tosca Reno’s site (love that Turtle Bites recipe!) I am from the Philadelphia area (go Eagles!) and am also going to a conference in Baltimore (mine is this weekend) so have enjoyed reading the posts about going to these places. Anyway, my thing to give up in October is “stress eating”. My diet is pretty clean (no white sugar or white flour) but I find myself turning to food to deal with stress. Even though it’s not necessarily “bad” food (yesterday I was crunching on raw almonds after a bad day at work), it is food that I’m eating not out of hunger and I want to find a better, non-food solution.

Reply

TaylorR September 26, 2012 at 10:51 am

Thanks Lyn! I am actually making batches of the bites this weekend!

Hi Taylor! I am going to give up snacking on the little chocolates that seem to always be in my coworker’s cubicles. I’ve been better lately by only having one or two, but sometimes I grab three or four. It will be a challenge since I know they are always there!

I don’t have a Twitter account, so this is the only entry for me!

I am going to give up diet cokes (I only have them once or twice a week, but still). I am also going to give up my favorite go to snack (that I eat way too much of): hummus and crackers. I tend to eat way too much hummus and triscuits while “deciding on a meal.” it’s just too easy to grab and even though it can be a decent snack in moderation, I tend to overindulge.

my office has lots of treats — pies, cakes and other baked goods. For the month of Oct. I am giving up having sweet treats at my office. Once a week is “Pie Tuesday” where someone brings in a pie — homemade and yummy but oh that crust! and usually there is some other treat at a random time during the week. I’ve been thinking about doing this and your challenge tipped me over the (good) edge.
