That sounds like a fun challenge, I’m excited to try it!
Yay! You can do it.
Its not letting me comment!! So I decided to do it this way.. I’ll be giving up desserts at work in October.. they are free and so good! But its a good idea to quit now!
Thanks for being an inspirations…in October I will be giving up flour…I love it but it makes me bloat…lol
That’s a good one Grace! Especially if it causes discomfort. I can’t wait to hear how you feel at the end of the month!
I really need to give up ice cream for a month
I will be giving up diet soda. . . I know, I know, I know!!! I should have done it ages ago, but we all have our vices right? Good luck to you!
I tweeted about the giveaway
I’m toying around with the idea of giving up cheese for October to see if it makes me feel any better. But first I have to make sure there aren’t any essential fall foods that include cheese.
I am giving up LaraBars and it is tough. I have to plan so much more to have something light and nutrient dense to eat before I hit the gym. I don’t think Larabars are bad for me but all the wrappers adding up were weighing on me. Plus the parent company supports unlabeled GMOs so my money spent on them supported something against my values. I hope I can do it!
this is going to be a hard one, but i think i’m going to give up beer for the month of October. it’ll be hard mostly because i live in Wisconsin and beer is a bit of a staple here, but i think it makes me stuffy and bloaty and that i may have a minor gluten intolerance, so hopefully a month w/o it will uncover some things for me. awesome giveaway, by the way!

peanut butter — not that it is bad, but it is my “go to” snack always. I could find a better substitute!
Love love your advice. You are giving up lattes. Good luck,I’m going to give up Nutella.
I love this challenge! I am going to give up my afternoon Iced Coffee habit that formed over summer
It is expensive and totally unnecessary.
Sounds like a good give away!!
I am going to give up soda. I only drink diet, but I know that is not great for you either. I am seriously addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper, this will be hard! I’m curious to see if I see any kind of changes from not drinking it. Awesome challenge!
I an going to give up protein bars for the month of October…lately instead of using them occasionally I’ve been eating at least one every day:(
Tweeted!
granola bars- the calories and price of them really tend to add up!!
It’s a good idea – I do wish it was another month. The bf gets back from Afghanistan in the middle of October, so there won’t be a whole lot of denial going on. BUT I love the idea so much that I am giving up my dependence on sweetners. I have gotten into the habit of putting stevia in everything – green tea, on my cereal, in water with lime juice – when it all tastes fine on its own. We’ll see how this goes!
Dangit! i will give up ice cream..
and i tweeted it…
I tried to do this in September….epic fail. I love to eat raw oats. The only problem it makes me bloated, and cause weight creep as I eat waaay too much. It is my chocolate. I figure if I put out there then I am accountable. So for real…I am giving up my daily snack of cup of oats.
I need to give up chewing gum. It’s a bit ridiculous how much I chew. Hoping I can kick it for the month of September… so I can make try to take out those artificial sweeteners yet. Baby steps…
I am addicted to gum too, so much so that I am giving up the latte’s before it because I am just not ready to part with it. lol. Plus the gum is a bit more friendly on my wallet.
I was hoping to come up with something more original but I am also giving up lattes for the month and if it goes well I am going to do it throughout the holidays. I’m trying to cut back on caffeine and the extra calories and $ saved will be an added bonus. It’s hard this time of year because coffee/lattes usually sound the best to me during fall & winter but I think it may be what’s contributing to the migraines I’ve been having the last couple weeks.
Oh Pepsi, I miss you already!! I can’t believe that I used to drink Pepsi from sun up to sun down when I was a teenager. But then my metabolism was super fast back then! Course now I know what the sugar in one Pepsi looks like. UGH! Bad Pepsi, Bad!!!
Back then I was addicted to Mt Dew… it got me through studying back in the day! Now I can’t take a sip, too sugary to taste. lol
I will give up diet sundrop/ diet coke for a month. I need to drink more water anyway and get back on track.
I will give up pizza and eating at the hotel cafeteria. Trading lunch time for gym time.
No desserts for the month of October
I am going to give up diet soda! I should be drinking water when I’m picking up a coke zero or diet coke. Hopefully this will help me to drink more water and will be better for my general health! Thanks for the inspiration!
Retweeted you
I really need to give up chocolate for a month
I will be giving up almond butter for the month! Though it’s a healthy snack option I find myself eating unhealthy amounts (spoon after spoon), it’ll be a struggle but it’ll be worth it! I don’t have Twitter but I did post this on FB, does that count?
Good luck everyone!
Yes Melissa, that counts! Thanks for sharing. We got this, no more almond butter!
I am going to try to give up dessert at work! .. I work in an assisted living and the dessert is always free and so good!! I think I can do it! ..hope. haha
I am going to try to give up dessert at work.. I work at an assisted living so dessert is always free and super good! I hope i can do it!
What a great idea and inspiration! I’m going to give up artificial sweetner.
I am giving up drive thru lunches….i drive so much for work and, though I choose salads and healthy options, I am going to pack lunches!
And I put it on Facebook…no twitter. Thanks for your encouragement.
For October, I am giving up my cheat day. I really need to step it up and this seems to be the best option for me right now. So I will be eating “clean” EVERY day in October
I am giving up my cheat day for October!
I’m going to give up bite-size treats (think Halloween candy and mini chocolate bars). Those little devils add up quickly! This will help me get on track for the Christmas season where small dietary temptations are everywhere.
I’m giving up baking!!! I love to bake but I should just replace it with cooking up healthier projects.
First of all, I think this site is fantastic and have been reading it since Taylor did a guest blog on Tosca Reno’s site (love that Turtle Bites recipe!) I am from the Philadelphia area (go Eagles!) and am also going to a conference in Baltimore (mine is this weekend) so have enjoyed reading the posts about going to these places. Anyway, my thing to give up in October is “stress eating”. My diet is pretty clean (no white sugar or white flour) but I find myself turning to food to deal with stress. Even though it’s not necessarily “bad” food (yesterday I was crunching on raw almonds after a bad day at work), it is food that I’m eating not out of hunger and I want to find a better, non-food solution.
Thanks Lyn! I am actually making batches of the bites this weekend!
I am going to try and give up ice cream…it’s so tempting when the hubby has a bowl!!
Hi Taylor! I am going to give up snacking on the little chocolates that seem to always be in my coworker’s cubicles. I’ve been better lately by only having one or two, but sometimes I grab three or four. It will be a challenge since I know they are always there!
I don’t have a Twitter account, so this is the only entry for me!
I am going to give popcorn for the month of October. We go to the movies at least 3 times a month, I don’t much of it but it still adds up.
I’m giving up sneaking chocolate chips out of the cupboard!
Oooh, this is a hard time of year to give up lattes, but I know you can do it! I am going to try to give up eating after 8pm. This continues to be a struggle for me as the late night munchies always seem to get to me.
Ok I facebooked it, becuase I dont even know how to tweet…
I am so excited to do this…thanks for the great information and for the contest!!!
Yay! Thanks for sharing it
I also tweeted about it and shared on my facebook page!
I’m going to try to give up beer… will not be easy!
I am going to give up diet cokes (I only have them once or twice a week, but still). I am also going to give up my favorite go to snack (that I eat way too much of): hummus and crackers. I tend to eat way too much hummus and triscuits while “deciding on a meal.” it’s just too easy to grab and even though it can be a decent snack in moderation, I tend to overindulge.
I am giving up bread and spagetti, noodles!
I’m going to try to give up beer…. it will not be easy!
Also, I shared on FB. I don’t have twitter.
Love love love your site and info! Working my way DOWN from 243!
Thanks Letty! Keep it up! You can do it
I was going to try to do “French Fry Free October” – we usually do it in January to make up for all the junk we eat over the holidays but I just remembered that will be next to impossible with post season baseball… so I will do soda free October. No diet sodas at all. Eeep. Scary!
I am going to give up cheese again for the month.
It may sound counter-intuitive, but I’m giving IN to beef and beer to better my health! I am a little too lean and am working to improve my overall body composition for my health.
Twitter has been alerted as well!
I am giving up nut butters as my body really doesn’t like them. I know they are healthy, but my body doesn’t digest them well and I know I could honor my body better by giving these things up. It will be hard, but I know that having others who are giving up things will help to encourage me to stay on track.
I absolutely love the blog and emails! Keep up the great work!
I’m giving up beer for October – this will be hard since my birthday is in October… I can do this!!!

Not to be a copy cat but I work in a coffee shop and drink way too many coffee+soy milk concoctions. For the month of October I will begin drinking decaf and then work my way into just tea as a solution to my caffeine addiction.
I am giving up All those fun size candy bars that come out in droves this time of year!
Hi Taylor! Thanks so much for doing this. {It’s exactly what I needed to get a fresh start to the month!} I’m giving up popcorn & chips for the month of October! :{ They’re my weakness. It’s nice to know others are doing the exact same thing as you. Good luck to you, too!
Totally giving up Diet Dr. Pepper. Like potato chips its hard to have just one so….none is the answer! Thanks for the inspiration and the fun giveaways!
Oh this is going to be tough – but I’m going to try and give up all sweets that come through my office! It’s hard passing up a delicious plate of cookies!
I am going to give up Diet Cokes. My excuse is that the bubbles “help” my throat in the morning because of my allergies…ENTER soda stream. Great challenge!
I’m giving up lattes from Starbucks, will def be hard since the weather is getting cooler in New York City, but will try tea to help with this. Thanks, Taylor!
Oh the lattes. We can do it, adios steamed foamy milk. Hello, herbal soothing teas!
I am going to give up sugar which will be hard since it is hiding in so many things.
Awesome timing for this one – thanks for the motivation! I’m giving up pretzels – too many empty carbs and way too much sodium. And, I am going to try to give up cheese but that one is going to be really hard!!
I’m giving up my Chardonnay with dinner. Empty calories, 200ish an evening! That’s about, wow, 6,000 calories in one month, just on one item. Ok, I’m committed now, no wine during October. Great challenge by the way!! Love to cut calories AND try a little self discipline to mix it up!
I am going to give up sugar, namely sweets.
Ok, posted on your site AND posted on Twitter! Following you now as well! Thanks for being such an inspiration and creating a fun challenge for October!
I’m giving up my wine with dinner. 1 glass = 200ish calories, which is 6,000 calories for the month! Ack! (I tried to post this already and received an error for duplicate messages…I also posted on Twitter)
I am going to give up Cheez its. Yes Cheez its. Eliminating a handful a day…..will help keep the lbs away…..whoop whoop!!!!!!!!! Happy Holidays!!!!!!!
Living in Texas it’s very hard not to eat Mexican food so it will have to be chips and skinny margaritas
plus stealing my daughters HALLOWEEN candy for the month of October
I have tried posting multiple times, doesn’t appear to be working at least on my computer…my challenge is no wine with dinner for October. Posted on Twitter as well!
my office has lots of treats — pies, cakes and other baked goods. For the month of Oct. I am giving up having sweet treats at my office. Once a week is “Pie Tuesday” where someone brings in a pie — homemade and yummy but oh that crust! and usually there is some other treat at a random time during the week. I’ve been thinking about doing this and your challenge tipped me over the (good) edge.
my office has “Pie Tuesdays” where someone brings in a pie each week. Homemade and yummy but oh the calories in that crust! Often there is another time in the week where there is ice cream or other baked good. I’ve been thinking about giving up these sweet treats and your challenge has pushed me over the (good) edge. I’m giving them up at least until the end of Oct.
OMG what a mean office to work in! Sounds delish but def hard on the clean eating front! You can do it though!
I’m giving up office sweets starting now and going through- at least- the end of Oct. My office does “Pie Tuesday” when someone brings in a yummy homemade pie. Often there is another treat at another point in the week — ice cream, cake or some other baked good left over from a meeting. I’ve been thinking of doing this for awhile and your challenge has tipped me over the edge!
I’m going to give up my tootsie rolls at work. Blind snacking isn’t a good idea anyway. Goodbye tootsie rolls.
They say “good-bye”
I am going to give up my sugary coffee and start drinking more tea and give up refined sugars completely for the month of October. That includes alcohol, gonna be hard with octoberfest…
You can do it! This one we will do together! Good bye coffee, hello tea.
I think I missed the opportunity, but just for fun, I’m going to give up sweets in the evening. I’ve been snacking on them quite a bit lately, especially after 8:00 pm when the kids go to bed!
Because I’m pregnant, I feel justified in the extra sweets I’ve been eating and indulging in. I’m committing to NOT buying Ice cream for the rest of my pregnancy because I have no portion control.
Congrats on the pregnancy! So exciting. Good luck with the Ice Cream! You can do it!
I am giving up drinking coffee past 5pm- Drinking them too late in the evening is affecting my ability to give quality massages! (Too shaky!)
That’s a good one, I try to not drink coffee that late either. Simply because it gives me crazy weird dreams.
I’m going to give up peanut butter. I love it with just about anything or even by itself but that means I eat way too much. I going to go cold turkey to kick the habit. Thanks for the incentive!
I will be giving up candy!
I will give up my morning diet pepsi!
I’d love to win! I’ll try to cut back on artificial sweeteners & soda
gonna start lifting weights with my sister m-f at 10:00 am. Yes a partner to work out with!
Yay! That’s awesome. Good luck!
I am going to give up nibbling. I like to take a bite here, a bite there, and I know that all those bites add up, so goodbye bites and extra calories.
I’m going to give up chips.I don’t eat them very often, but it seems like lately it’s been a simple side or snack.
