Exercise isn’t as important…
Nutrition isn’t as important…
The fitness clothes or supplements or using a trainer like me isn’t as important…
The single most important thing you NEED to lose weight and be healthy your entire life is…
There is no doubt in my mind that what you believe you can do and accomplish with your body and life is the single most important thing to succeed.
Think about it like this for a minute. If you don’t believe in yourself how do you expect yourself to:
- Exercise on a weekly consistent basis?
- Eat the right foods on a daily basis?
- Get excited about working out?
- Wake up early with a great attitude?
- Want to learn to cook better?
Simply put… you won’t do any of these things if you don’t believe that you can succeed. Plus living with no self belief is a horrible way to life. I think you should see yourself as the mack daddy of all, but act humble in public.
It makes a difference in how you walk, talk, exercise, and eat.
How Can You Increase Your Self Belief?
Rule 1 – It’s A Process
You can’t just flick on a switch and have this supreme confidence in yourself. It will take a little time, but it will come. So just like getting results in weight loss or anything, persistence is key.
Plus there’s going to be an ebb and flow. You won’t always be on top of the world internally. You’ll feel down and junky some days and other days you’ll be the queen bee. Realizing that will make the down days easier to get through.
Rule 2 – You Have To Start In The Mud
To build a strong confidence, you’ll probably have to start in the mud. At the bottom. It’s going to be slug fest with yourself to get it growing, but grow it will when you follow rule 3.
Just knowing that you’ll start at the bottom though means you’ll set the right expectations. If you think you can make yourself feel like number 1 from the start then you’ll be really upset when you can’t or when you have a bad day.
Self belief is like a plant that you nurture and cultivate all the time. It’s roots, the foundation, are very important and they always start in the mud.
Rule 3 – You Have To Fake It
I think you have to convince yourself that you’re better than you think you are before you’ll start to act like it. Here’s what I mean…
What you’re capable of and what you think you’re capable of are two different things. If you’re like most people, what you’re capable of far exceeds what you think you can do. So just like we’re talking about, your thoughts are holding you back.
So fake it.
Pretend you’re more bad ass than you think. Keep telling yourself you are and convince yourself you are. Soon enough you’ll be acting like you are and your results will show it. But always remain humble around other people. Modesty is important… internal bad assness is important too though.
Rule 4 – You Have To Own It And Protect It
When your self belief starts to grow, you have to own it and protect it. There are going to be people that want to bring you down. It’s just a rule of life. Others around you will feel intimidated by you and try to bring you down to there level so they can be comfortable.
Don’t let this happen. Protect your self belief.
When somebody says you can’t do something, let it slide right off your back. Make it a point to prove to them you can do it and to show them. It’s actually important in my opinion to do this…
By proving them wrong, not only do you protect your self belief, but you can show them that great things are possible. Just like that quote (below), you can give them permission to prove themselves wrong and boost their own self belief. This is also covered in rule 5.
Always protect your self belief because it’s the most important quality you’ll need throughout your life.
Rule 5 – You Have To Help Others
My favorite quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
It’s long but I love that quote.
One of the more important parts to me about this quote is it’s our responsibility to help others let their light shine. By doing this it will increase our own self belief too.
So you help others by doing great things yourself. By increasing your self belief, you’ll help others say to themselves…
“Gosh, if she can do it, then there’s no reason I can’t. I think I’ll do it.”
Protect Your Self Belief, Grow Your Self Belief
