Spring 2017 Live Your Fitness Retreat Recap

Think I disappeared? Nope… just frolicking in the mountains.

This past weekend, I hosted my 5th Live Your Fitness Retreat for women!

I still can’t believe this is my 3rd year doing these, but I have to say…

This one was by far the BEST (we leave saying that after every one)!

The long weekend was filled with first for many ladies and my heart was happy the entire time.

My assistant, Lynette and I have these retreats down to a science by now but that doesn’t mean we don’t stress out trying to make each one better than the previous.

We want the best sponsors, best house, best trails and of course best memories.

Our house  (I highly recommend this rental) was nestled on Lake Keowee, complete with a dock. Waking up to lake fog and a hot cup of coffee is the best.

Our house comfortably held our group of 15 and we had a blast sipping wine, dancing, and eating delicious food while recapping the day’s adventures each night.

These retreats are my favorite and I highly recommend that you join us on the next one!

To make this easy for both you and me, I’m going to break it up a bit… Share our itinerary and then our sponsors.

Sound good?

Live Your Fitness Retreat: What We Did

Everyone arrived Thursday afternoon and was greeted with a strawberry wine cocktail. OMG, I sipped on a single glass, but man these could definitely lead to trouble.

1.5 cup frozen strawberries + 1 bottle of wine = cocktail bliss

Once everyone arrived, we did a wine tasting event with my favorite local winery, Victory Valley Vineyards.

If you’re ever in the South Carolina Upstate, make sure to make it a point to visit.

And then we moved to dinner. After all, we had to fuel ourselves for the rest of the trip. With all those ladies, I was beyond happy to have a simple meal I just needed to heat up thanks to Fit & Fresh!

After the welcome party, the rest of the trip was focused on fitness adventures!

Dan and I knew from the beginning that we wanted to share more than workouts with women.

We wanted to share ideas of how to use the fitness that you build in a gym.

That was the drive for the retreats and “Live Your Fitness” has since become our motto.

Jones Gap State Park:

Jones Gap State Park is loaded with trails. Many of which Dan and I have hiked before, but there are plenty more for us to explore and discover.

For this trip, we headed off on the “blue trail” around 9:00am and veered off on the red Rainbow Trail about ¼ mile up. The 2 miles flew by and before we knew it the up, up, up trail lead us to Rainbow Falls.

(Did you see me?)

It was GUSHING thanks to the rain that had been falling.

It was stunning!

After pictures, we turned around and climbed back down to the blue. We continued our hike up for about 2 hours before having to turn around due to our next scheduled activity…

Yoga:

After a total of 13 miles, the ladies agreed a good yoga session was a great idea.

Victoria Valley Vineyards excitedly agreed to let our yoga coach, Katie, lead us through a session on their back lot overlooking the vineyard.

Seriously, yoga can’t get any better than this:

A glass of wine and a few plates of cheese was the perfect ending to the day before heading back to the house to relax and enjoy a risotto dinner.

Opossum Falls:

The next morning, with full bellies and coffee buzzes, we headed out for our next adventures.

This time in the opposite direction to Opossum Falls.

You may have heard in the news last year about the forest fire that raged through Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina? The remnants of the fire were across from the trailhead where acres of burnt land still smelt of smoke!

Luckily, the trail side of the road was in great condition and we headed 2.2 miles to Opossum Falls. Holy crap, this may be my new favorite waterfall.

Absolutely beautiful.

What made it even better was that the river intersected with another and created a beautiful small lake-like beach for us to eat lunch and relax.

Some of the group relaxed in the sun, while I took the rest on a “rock hopping” adventure where we explored up the river for about a ½ mile.

This was such a blast… very tough at times. Totally worth it.

Even with the snake sightings! YIKES!

Once we made it back to the car, another 6.something miles were accomplished and we spent the rest of the day lounging on our dock, eating dinner and having a karaoke party.

The final morning, the ladies woke up for one final yoga session before eating breakfast and hitting the road.

It was an amazing trip and I am already planning the next one.
