The Lack Of Hustle & Bustle With New Gym Members

new gym memberships

When you think of New Years do you think of losing weight and getting in shape? That’s what 80+% of women think of this time of year. So I wasn’t the least bit surprised when I pulled into my gym parking lot this morning and had to drive to the back to find a spot to park. It was prime time before having to get ready for work and new gym members were getting their feet wet…

Or were they?

How do you feel when you see twice as many cars as normal? Me… I get a bit nervous and frustrating thinking that the equipment, benches and weights will be taken up.  Normally around this time year I can remember my

workouts suffering from the “few fitness crowd” trying to experiment and get in shape. But this year seems different.

Not only were the benches empty but all the racks, weights, cables… everything with strength training was open. YES! Great for me, but guess where everyone was…

Peddling away on the treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. There wasn’t a bike seat unoccupied. it inspired me to write this note for you… Ms. New Gym Member

Dear Ms. New Gym Member;

It just makes me feel bad for you as a new member… you have set goals to get  in shape but don’t know how to do it. It is really no wonder why the fitness resolution only last 5.5 weeks… that’s less than two months. It’s not because you get lazy and just don’t come,  it is because you’re not seeing results, you get bored and assume that this is the best body you can have. NOT TRUE.

Why You’re Not Seeing Results

If you’re one of the new gym members or fitness resolution makers here is something very important… if not vital to read and understand:

A program based solely on cardio is no program at all.

Cardio isn’t the enemy, it is great for your heart, lungs, organs, etc but in the fight to see results with your body fat and toneness it’s not going to do what you want. In fact, if you’re like the people I saw today, going to town at a steady rate for God knows how long you are breaking down  sexy, lean muscle… not fat. That number you see on the scale isn’t lower because of fat loss, it is lower most likely due to losing a combination of muscle, water and a little fat.

So what’s the answer?

A proper program designed with your goals in mind! But I can guarantee that it will incorporate the most important piece of the fitness programs… strength training.

So please… for my sake and for yours: Hop off the treadmill, the bike, the ellipitical or whatever else you’ve been on for 45 minutes and start on a program that won’t have you quit after a few weeks! Talk to the trainer at your gym, check out online women’s fitness training options, grab a workout partner, whatever you want!

I wish you the best of luck Ms. New Gym Member!

Sincerely,

Taylor Ryan
