The Top 10 Best All-Natural Food Bars That Are Really All-Natural

by TaylorR

Like many of you, I am saddened by the way our current food manufacturing system works and the lax rules laid down by the FDA.

Like Dan says, sometimes it might be better not to know then to try to worry over every little thing.

Yes, he might be right, but at the same time I really do strive to eat as REAL as possible. And like you, there are days when I don’t have time to blend a healthy shake or when I just don’t feel like making my own batch of protein bars.

For those days, I prefer to grab a pre-packaged bar on the go.

After yesterday’s podcast, I thought I would give some of my favorite all natural bars, that are actually all natural.

I’ve tested out LOTS and LOTS of bars over the years. I have given myself the challenge to find the best tasting real food bars on market. So each time I am at a store like Whole Foods or EarthFare and I see a new to me bar, I grab it up.

Here’s what my studies have concluded so far…

The Top 10 Best All-Natural Food Bars That Are Really All-Natural

What’s up with the asterisk next to ‘Certified Gluten-free Organic Oat Groats’?

Good question. I have no idea. On their website they have no foot note. But it’s got to be on the package. If you have one, let us know in the comments.

2. Go Raw Live Pumpkin

  • Sprouted Organic Pumpkin Seeds
  • Sprouted Organic Flax Seeds
  • Organic Dates
  • Raw Organic Agave Nectar

  • Raw Honey

2. Greens Chocolate Energy Bar

I love these, they have a crispy outer chocolate shell and a green filling. It is a bit “green” in flavor but if you check out the ingredients you’ll understand why!

A longer list yes…. but it’s basically a greens supplement in a bar.

I love that Trader Joe’s carries these!

Ingredients:

  • Organic dates
  • Organic almond butter
  • Organic dark chocolate (organic evaporated cane syrup, organic cocoa liquor, organic cocoa butter, organic vanilla, sunflower lecithin)
  • Organic honey
  • GMO-free soy protein isolate
  • Original Greens Plus powder (gmo-free soy lecithin, Hawaiian Spirulina, AppleBoost peel and fiber, organic barley grass, organic wheat grass, Japanese chlorella, hydroponic soy sprouts, brown rice bran, sprouted barley malt, organic alfalfa grass, royal jelly, Montana bee pollen, acerola berry juice, natural vitamin E, licorice root, milk thistle seed extract, echinacea root extract, Siberian eleuthero root extract, astragalus root extract, licorice root extract, organic red beet juice, dunaliella salina algae, organic Nova Scotia Dulse, ginkgo biloba leaf extract, Japanese green tea extract, grape seed and skin extract, European bilberry extract) – HOLY MOLY!
  • Organic brown rice crisps (organic brown rice, organic brown rice syrup, sea salt)
  • Organic quinoa sprout powder
  • Natural mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E).

3. Pure Bar

No not the class!

I was introduced to this company at a blog event last year and have enjoyed them ever since. Perfect for a pre-run bar that doesn’t upset my stomach!

Ingredients:

  • Organic dates
  • Organic agave nectar – There’s agave again… pretty common ‘natural’ sweetener. I wonder why they don’t use Stevia?
  • Organic cashew butter (organic cashews, organic sunflower oil)
  • Organic rice protein concentrate
  • Organic walnuts
  • Organic almonds
  • Organic coconut cream
  • Organic bananas
  • Organic natural flavor

4. Bearded Brothers

I have loved this brand since I learned of its existence a bit over a year or two ago. I love that its family owned and run and they have a deep passion for what they do.

You can see a previous review here and here.

Ingredients (in the Ginger Peach):

  • Organic Dates
  • Organic Almonds
  • Organic Walnuts
  • Organic Dried Peaches*
  • Organic Fresh Pressed Ginger
  • Organic Chia Seeds
  • Sea Salt

YIKES! There’s that asterisk again. Their site doesn’t comment on that. But I’m sure the package does!

5. LaraBars

And when all else fails, can’t go wrong with Lara Bars!

Wow. For real?

Just 5 ingredients?

There’s your winner for most ‘Natural’ of them all.

Ingredients (in Cappuccino):

  • Dates
  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Coffee
  • Vanilla

*I did not receive compensation or even free products to write this post. These are the brands that I personally enjoy!

I’ve never had any of these but I like the sounds of the Larabars, fewer ingredients usually do the trick and there’s less probability of hidden surprises :) This reminds me too of an article I read the other day about beers and how since they don’t need to label their ingredients they put all kinds of crazy stuff in there! Fish bladder, GMO grains, high fructose corn syrup :S Germany is the only country I know of in the world that has laws about what goes in beer and they’re only allowed 4 ingredients: barley, hops, water & yeast.

Wow, I need to find this article! That’s interesting. I have heard that there is some crazy stuff in beer!

The only one of these I’ve tried is Lara Bars and tjat’s probably bc I really love Lara bars :). You just can’t beat 5 ingredients, fairly cheap, and sold everywhere (you can even find em in gas stations). I finally tried Quest Bars but only liked the chocolate chip cookie dough one and thought they were a bit pricey, and the nutrition facts seemed a little too good to be true? Anyway, I think Lara is my favorite in general, once I find ones I like I usually stick w/ em :).

Oh I have a serious bar problem.. just ask my husband haha! Actually don’t ;) While they’re not the most natural, I do really love the ThinkThin fiber bars. They pack a serious protein and fiber punch for not a ton of calories which is great when I know I’ll need something to hold me over. And my stomach seems to like em too!

What do you think of the Rise bars? Their honey almond protein bar has only 3 ingredients in it and I love their breakfast bar. I too love Raw Revolution! I normally duplicate making the Kind bars at home and they are definitely much better than store bought.

I love the Rise Bars, I have only had them once or twice but with just 3 ingredients it doesn’t get much better than that! I would love the recipe for homemade kind bars! that’s awesome.
