Train Your Mind To Tone Your Body

Alrighty, get out your dumbbells place one on top of your head and balance. Of course I am kidding but this article will discuss the importance of strengthening your mind and attitude to keep you on track with your work outs.

Why do women have problems staying on track and sticking with their fitness routine? We are BUSY! and usually do not prioritize our own needs above family, work, and friends. The trick to beating the scheduling obstacle is the PAF method. Planning, Adjust, and Functionality.

The first P PLANNING!

Take out your calendar, blackberry, schedule book, or however you organize and put in writing the day, time, and duration your work out will be. This way appointments and social time is scheduled around work outs. Just like you would not miss a dentist or doctor’s appointment, you will not miss a fitness appointment. If your work out time is before work lay out gym clothes and pack your work/day outfit the night before. If your work out time is in the evening pack all exercise essentials in gym bag for later.

The A is ADJUST…

So you planned for a work out but have to stay late at work. Well your gym clothes should already be in your car, Right? Go put them on and start climbing those stairs! No stairs? Head outside to do whatever work out you would be doing at the gym without your weights. To kick it up a notch alternated exercises with one minute jumping jacks or fast run. As long as you have your gym clothes you can work out anywhere/ anytime.

The F stands for Functionality…

Working out makes us sweat and results in muscle fatigue and occasional muscle soreness. However these are by products of exercise not the end result. The result that most women are looking for is improved physique. Because this takes a longer time to occur, it is important to focus on the function of exercise. When working arm muscles the image of toned Michelle Obama arms comes to mind but focus on how much easier it will be to carry groceries, and your children or grandchildren. Leg exercises will improve stair climbing and muscular endurance. Focus on how much exercise and strength training will make you feel better during everyday activities, not only how you look in the mirror.
