Weekly Fitness Journal

I finally took a progress picture this morning. Please excuse my appearance, I have no makeup on at all.

This morning I weighed in at 112 lbs; 21% body fat… this is not where I want to be… I don’t mind the weight, thought it’s ok if I even gain a few pounds but I am working to lean down a bit. I would like to be around 16-18% body fat. This is where I look and feel the best.

Getting there is actually going to be simplified thanks to Lent. I am giving up chocolate and sugar. Not that I eat a tons of candy, but I do eat chocolate a lot, it’s my weakness.

Workouts are being upped still with 1-2 extra days of cardio and yoga. Love the yoga!

I will give an update with new pictures next week!

You look really great! But I know you have to have personal goals :)

How do you measure your body fat? I have a set of calipers but I’ve heard those aren’t accurate????

Also, your posture is so good – do you attribute that to a strong core and back? Or is it just a habit? I need to work on that (see my progress pictures) :) :)

Oh, and my daily treat (often twice a day) is 1 square of Ghiradelli 72% cacao. I can give up lots of stuff, but nobody messes with my Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate!

Thanks. My posture is pretty bad too actually, but from doing my figure competitions I had to learn to stand upright and squeezing. A strong core def helps with this but also just making it a habit. Even when sitting on the couch, it’s good to try and sit upright with a tight belly.

I have a electro-fat scale. It’s not always the most accurate but since I do it the same time, same day of the week, it is helpful. They use your hydration to measure fat %… callipers are actually pretty good… the reason they are sometimes put down is because you have to have someone who knows how to use them and at what places on your body to get the most accurate results from time to time. It’s important to measure the same places (I even take three readings from each location and average them) to get as accurate as possible.

I’m also trying to lower my body fat to about 18% (currently 21%). How tall are you, and are there specific things you do do lower your BF (besides giving up sweets)? Also, how long have you given yourself to reach this goal? Thanks!

Hey Kristen… I am 5’5. When it comes to lowering my BF, I do increase the amount of days I do cardio… instead of just 1-2 days of intervals, I up it to 3-4 days. I also am aware of my carb count, my body is pretty sensitive to carbs and when I lower them down I lose fat faster. During a fat burning stage I get my carbs under 80 g a day. But I naturally eat low carb so this isn’t hard for me at all. Let’s see… I also drink LOTS of water! It helps to flush everything out and helps your body perform all it’s metabolic functions the best.
I have given myself till my birthday to get there (Apr 6). How about you?

Wow you look really fit! I want to start doing yoga as well, are there any tapes you suggest or do you take classes?

I love Rodney Yee Yoga DVDs… He has a morning am yoga dvd that I really enjoy, it has 5 different workouts each one is only 20 minutes. It is a great one for complete beginners and more advanced. And it is a great way to start the day. He also has on called Strength Yoga, it’s a bit more challenging but really great too.
