Here’s my morning routine… breakfast, workout, workout snack, coffee and read the latest fitness and nutrition news online.
I read the research to see if anything interesting, important or news worthy has come out over the past 24 hours that I might want to share with you or just to help fill my own mind with the latest. But here’s what gets me… I think I only get something good out of it once every two weeks.
It’s not that news and research isn’t being published, there are freaking tons of new reports each day… but here’s the kicker: I think many researchers publish stuff just to publish. It’s not news worthy, and it’s definitely not worth my time.
Am I being harsh?
It is only because more than half of the reports are just common sense that some researcher wants to put his name on so he can claim that he has been published. I know this, because I was a biologist and that’s the goal of several of them. Not to make money, not to make a huge difference, but to have their name on a research project… and they’re not picky what kind of research.
Here’s what I am talking about…
Common Sense “New Fitness Research Published”
- People that are obese and have type 2 diabetes in their 20s are more likely to have a stroke or heart attack in their 40s… really people? Thanks, who would have thought, that the way we treat our bodies today affects what happens in our future. Published today 2-2-10. Read the article here: Overweight in 20s Could Lead to Serious Problems in 40s
- Here’s another great one…. Diabetes On Alarming Increase In Morbid Obese. Considering that diabetes is often a side affect of obesity, is this breaking news in any way? I thought we new for years that the rise
in diabetes is from the rise in obesity? Publised 11-24-10. Read it here. - And finally… did you know: What You Eat After Your Workout Matters? You might not know that it is really important to eat a post workout snack and that’s definitely ok… but I am sure we all know that given the choices of eating a slice of pizza versus a turkey sandwich that the turkey is a better option. If you’re trying to get in shape and lose fat, then eating cookies after you just worked out isn’t a smart choice… Thanks news. Published 1-29-10, read about Eating Post Workout.
Not All Fitness News and Research is Common Sense
Remember I did say that I find good pieces from time to time that I get to share. That’s what keeps me reading through the articles each morning. And even if lots of it is common sense, it helps to bring those topics to my mind which actually do help in deciding what to write about.
I love when I find good stats and fitness fun facts, those are my favorite. So, as annoyed as I get, I will keep up with my morning routine. And also remember, if you find anything while googling that you want to share with others, just send it my way! I’ll be happy to share it here.
