I was reading online this morning and came across someone posting their workout info and asking for advice… Before I break down into my workout critique I suggest you try to analyze it too… what makes it suck (because trust me it really does)…Here’s what they said:
Is this a bad workout schedule?
twice a day but now that school is back on it’s hard to fit in two workouts in one day. I woke up this morning and had my 90 minute workout which finished at 11:15. I have to work at 3:00 so i was thinking of doing my second workout session at 1:00, but I’m still pretty sore from the first one. Would it be a bad idea to workout if im still sore from the first one? My morning workout was heavy weight lifing on my back & arms and my second workout is on my bowflex, back and arms. Answer greatly appreciated. Thanks! This is my workout
Day 1: Chest & Shoulders
Day 2: Back & Arms
Day 3: Legs & Trunk
———Day Off———
Repeat.
Why This Isn’t Doing Jack Squat (no pun intended)
That's a thumbs down!
First off I am not blaming the woman that’s doing this workout… it’s really not your fault. You probably got the idea out of some fitness magazine telling you this is a great workout program!
But anywho… 2 lifting sessions per day is crazy, and what’s more is that the morning starts with a heavy, intense workout and then followed up later with another one working the same muscles. This is just as bad as working the same muscle groups on back to back days. Muscles need time to rest and rebuild and those double workouts are putting you at a risk of overtraining and lack of results because they’re not repairing from the morning workouts before the afternoon weights come into play.
I also don’t like the idea of split workouts like this, of course I understand that some people do like them so I won’t go into my spill about how full body workouts burn more fat and tone more muscles… but I will say I don’t like Day 1 and Day 2 splits…
Because the arms are heavily used with chest and shoulders. Your biceps and triceps get a killer workout from these workouts. So you’re falling right back to where you were above with not only working too much in a day but now you’re working the same muscles back to back days.
And last… 90 minute lifting sessions? That is a waste of time and to really get an intense, result giving workout all you need is 30-45 min tops!
If you do like to workout twice per day I suggest adding in interval cardio workouts or some form of cardio that you enjoy!
What’s it to you?

Not enough warmup time.
I am a first time mother and my son is eight months old. He is in the phase of his life that he wants constant attention. I work 6 days a week at Narconon drug rehab and my son goes to the nanny when I am at work. I can’t afford to send him to the nanny’s for longer periods of time because of the expense. How can I get a good work out in and manage my son. I am looking for results but can’t spend 10 hours in the gym every week. I don’t have 10 hours to keep the house clean much less have the perfect body. Any suggestions?
Hey Megan… can you give 30 minutes 3 days a week… you can get great home workouts in that can give amazing results. Because you’re so busy I recommend high intensity circuits which can be done in your living room with your son napping or watching! Here’s a great blog i did to help with your workout: Home workouts for women.
I really like your blog and i respect your work. I’ll be a frequent visitor.
